Developers of network applications or network hardware need simulations to test their products before introducing them into the market. Today, several traffic models are available that can generate packet streams with a behavior close to real-life network traffic. Most of these are discrete models, and thus generate a sequence of packet or byte counts for subsequent time intervals. This generated traffic now has to be imported into the OPNET simulator. This paper will study the possibility of entering such bin counts into OPNET as (background) traffic flows. Optimal settings will be sought to make sure the desired traffic behavior is achieved.
