Platform‐Independent Development Technologies

Rocky Heckman · 2016

This chapter talks about designing platform-independent app services. The focus on how mobile app services can help a user with battery conservation is by moving the processing power. Most apps are on mobile devices now. These devices are designed for portability and as such run on batteries. The goal of most mobile apps and games, and especially anything related to high-performance or high-volume input from IoT devices is to be able to handle really high volumes of incoming and outgoing data. Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol is a common connection and communication channels in use by computers. Hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) introduces some application level communication mechanisms and characteristics that operate above the level of network addresses and routing tables. It is designed to be stateless, operate on a Request/Response pattern using bi-directional transfer. HTTP also allows for caching, intermediary (proxy) servers and the ability to negotiate the capabilities on each end of the connection.
