Introduction Conventional Object Request Broker (ORB) architectures like CORBA ORBs, DCOM, Java RMI are not able to cope with dynamically evolving application-specific preferences about the internal working of the ORB [Hayton97][Blair98]. The problem here is twofold: . Conventional ORBs are designed as a black box. Separation of concerns between the application at the one hand, and the ORB-implementation at the other hand, is achieved through information hiding via interfaces. However, we believe it remains difficult to reuse ORBs in an efficient manner. Reuse issues are not only about the generality of the interfaces, but also about crucial implementation issues, that inevitably bias the performance of the resulting implementation.
