Summary We research an illumination analysis using Poynting vector based on double-way equation, which is a full wave method. The approach can avoid the angle limitation based on one-way wave equation and high frequency approximation based on ray tracing method. Thus, this method can handle angle domain illumination while the method does not need large numbers of calculation that decomposing Green function in frequency domain or time domain. Besides, weaken noise interference caused by the poynting vector algorithm by gaussian denosing method. Then based on the function of target dip angle we determine the optimal angle. This flow is useful for illumination analysis aiming at target point, studying imaging resolution and optimizing the acquisition system. Some 2D and 3D numerical examples are investigated to demonstrate the effectiveness of the flow.
