Platform‐Independent Development Strategy
Rocky Heckman · 2016
This chapter discusses platform-independent development strategy. The general idea is to start with a codebase, that people can get the most reuse out of, while still being able to produce native apps. In the new platform-independent delivery world, five distinct layers are used. The layers are User Interface (UI), Service Interface, Service, Data Abstraction Layer (DAL), and Data Layer. The UI layer handled the display of data and collection of user input. The Service Logic layer often referred to as a Business Logic layer handled the manipulation of data, number crunching and was generally the brains of the system. The Data layer is where the data were physically stored. The Data Abstraction Layer's role is to translate between code readable objects and physical data representations. This kind of layer can usually be implemented with most Object Relational Mapping (ORM) systems.
