New methods of image capture to support advanced post-production
G. Thomas · 2003
Advances in post-production technology make it ever easier to manipulate captured images in new ways, and perform functions such as changing frame rate and insertion of virtual objects. However, such processes could be improved or made significantly easier by capturing additional data at the camera. The MetaVision project, funded by the EU's IST programme, has been investigating how to capture and record such data and how to use it to assist the post-production workflow. The project has developed a camera system demonstrator capable of capturing additional data in the form of high frame-rate images, and images for depth estimation. Experiments are conducted using this camera system, which allow the concepts pioneered by the project to be tested. We discuss some of the innovative aspects of the camera system, and present some results. (9 pages)
