The heterogeneous wireless sensor network deploys different kind of nodes in network. These nodes vary in term of energy, heterogeneity level etc. The cluster making and selection of the cluster heads in clustering based routing is always a matter of concern in these networks. In this paper we employed the fuzzy C-means clustering to form optimal and similar sized clusters and fuzzy control logic in selection mechanism of the cluster heads. Fuzzy control logic is used to elect the cluster head considering various factors such as heterogeneity of node, energy of node etc. The fuzzy rule base is made considering the values of all these factors. This hybrid approach helped to efficiently make the clusters and also to choose the cluster heads as proper election of cluster heads always dominate in increasing lifetime of network and decreasing the rate of nodes getting dead. The proposed approach successfully outperformed the already present approaches in the literature and has also increased the throughput of the network.
