Impact of pause time and mobility on total energy consumption of nodes

The only source of energy for nodes in Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is battery and hence they have very limited life time. A node performs various tasks such as sending a data packet, receiving a packet from any other node, forwarding a packet to some other node and sometimes packet dropping. Due to these, excessive energy is utilized, which result in energy depletion problem and thereby affect the performance of the entire network. We can estimate the remaining battery life (residual energy [1] in a node). Energy depletion problem can be avoided based on rate of energy consumption of a node and remaining battery life (residual energy in a node). This paper deals with the impact of increasing pause time, speed and interface queue length of nodes on the total energy consumption by all the nodes in the network. This technique can be applied to any protocol used in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks.
