Artist-Drawing Inspired Automatic Sketch Portrait Rendering

This paper proposes an artist-drawing inspired sketch portrait computer-generation technique. We borrow knowledge from artist-drawing procedure in three phases. The first phase is artist-like visual perception, which parses a photo image to structural appearance from global to local. The second phase is artist-like consideration and judgement, which maps previously parsed visual structure and texture to drawable graphics elements. In the third phase, we render the previously mapped drawing elements in a 'global-local-global' procedure like an artist. The rendering results demonstrate the effectiveness in generating an artistic sketch portrait conveniently from a photograph.
