Component-based adaptive tasks guided by resource contracts

Peter Rigole, Yolande Berbers, Tom Holvoet · 2004

In ubiquitous computing systems a tradeoff between func-tionality and resource use must be taken into account be-cause resource availability can change quite often. There-fore, resource information being available as context in-formation is paramount in ubiquitous environments. In this paper, we present adaptation mechanisms for component based applications that improve user support while taking resource availability into account. To ensure consistency in the use of (distributed) resources, a con-tract based approach is used in which components must be aware of their resource consumption by design. 1
