This paper discusses modern technologies and concepts for processing of large data sets - OLAP (On-line Analytic Processing), DM (Data Mining), SDA (Symbolic Data Analysis) and IFL (Intuitionistic Fuzzy Logic). A comparative analysis is proposed on different types of data processing and the pros and cons of each one of them are highlighted. The necessity is substantiated for implementing of new approaches and algorithms. In ideal case, different types of technologies and methodologies used in data processing (graphic applications, queries, finding out of relations, not previously known, between available data) are well integrated with analytics, mathematical models and algorithms, stressing the need of its coexistence within a given enterprise for the purposes of resolving of different issues. The paper provides also a framework for further research on a joint implementation project between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, ICSR, Sofia, and CGRI, Institut d'Informatique, FUNDP, Namur, Belgium. To realize the knowledge transfer and to understand clearly the goals of future research and needs of product developments it is necessary to study and to provide more details about existing concepts. Therefore, more in-depth knowledge is required regarding the results achieved, and techniques and methodologies, being commercialized in software products. In the paper the achieved, applied and theoretical results are analysed, as well as some existing drawbacks. Some topics of interest are shown for the purposes of additional scientific study, being specifically oriented to software applications.
