Exercise design for introductory programming: "Learn-by-Doing" basic O-O-concepts using Inverted Curriculum
Marcel Kessler · Repository for Publications and Research Data (ETH Zurich) · 2004
In a computer science curriculum, the introductory course to programming is probably the most important course, because it can shape the student's mind forever. In Winter 2003, ETH Zurich tried a new teaching approach called Inverted Curriculum, which is starting directly with the object-oriented paradigm. The approach is based around a library that the students rst use and later modify and extend. As the evaluation in this thesis shows, the rst run of this completely new course was mostly successful. However, because preparation time was short, some material could still be improved. This thesis lists possible improvements. One main aspect of the thesis is to present more suitable exercises. The other goal is to redesign and extend the library and increase its usability.
