Superhearo
Katherine Kenna, Alex Ryan · 2016
In this paper, we present a head-mounted wearable that augments the perception of quiet and distant sounds -- Superhearo. Inspired by superhero characters, this device has a dark, sleek aesthetic to appeal to a distinctive target audience, vigilantes. A small set of microphones embedded in the mask amplify soft sounds that are then processed and pushed out to a set of speakers. The enhanced audio is supplemented with haptic feedback to indicate the direction of the sound, while embedded NeoPixels provide the same information at a lower resolution for assistants. This device is a self-contained solution uniquely built for the vigilante.
