Maths advice just does not add up

I read with interest about the poor standard of maths in nursing and the impact on safe health care (News June 14). As a staff nurse, I have, on many occasions, stood frantically scribbling trying to remember how to do fractions, or asked colleagues where the decimal point should go. I have heard numerous similar conversations.
