Is spectral decomposition suitable for 3D modeling of channels?

Bradley C. Wallet · 2016

Qualitative interpretation of spectral decomposition attributes has proven its value in interpreting many types of geologies. Historically, this has focused upon 2D interpretation upon a time slice, stratal slice, or phantom horizon slice. More recently, work has been done using spectral decomposition attributes for 3D geomodeling and extraction of architectural elements such as channels. In this abstract, I examine whether this approach is likely to lead to valid and complete interpretations by considering the vertical localization of boundaries in spectral decomposition attributes.
