A Relational Thesaurus: Modeling Semantic Relationships Using Frames

The study investigated the argument structure of mid- to high-frequency English verbs, grouped semantically, to establish a basic inventory of relational structures, represented as frames. Based on this investigation, 28 general relational structures were identified. These relationship types are, in turn, related to each other through specialization (based on the hierarchy relationship) and composition (based on the part-whole relationship). Relational structures are also interrelated through the background knowledge inherent in their use.
