Three Applications of Methods of Cluster-Analysis
Byron J. T. Morgan · Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series D (The Statistician) · 1981
Three examples are provided of the use of methods of clusteranalysis. In one case the emphasis is on dividing individuals into a set of clusters, while in the other two cases the emphasis is more on using the methods to illustrate the data. Single-link cluster-analysis was used in all three examples, and other techniques used, only the first two of which are formally methods of cluster-analysis, were Jardine-Sibson B(2) analysis, a non-hierarchical method (Jones, 1979), nonmetric multidimensional scaling, the minimum spanning tree, asymmetry analysis by the singular value decomposition, and the use of Andrews curves.
