Multiprotocol Label Switching
H. Jonathan Chao, Xiaolei Guo · 2001
Multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) techniques are developed to support, with a single network, different kinds of network protocols. Chapter 10 discusses this emerging network technology. It includes the basic concepts, such as shim label, label stack, penultimate hop popping, label switched path (LSP) tunnel, label distribution protocol, resource reservation protocol (RSVP), constraint-based routing protocol, and support of differentiated services in a MPLS network. Two important applications, traffic engineering and virtual private networks (VPNs), are also presented.
