Coherent subarray detection method in the presence of spatial correlation attenuation

Due to environment disturbance, interference between normal modes and noise, etc., the spatial correlation between received signals at different receiving elements in a large aperture array is attenuated. In this paper, we consider the problem of detection performance degradation caused by the spatial correlation attenuation. A coherent subspace reduced-rank subarray detection method is proposed to alleviate performance degradation in the presence of imperfect spatial correlation. The theoretical performance of the method is derived, and the performance is validated by computer simulations. Results from both theoretical analysis and computer simulations show that the proposed method can acquire a better detection performance when the array aperture is much larger than the coherence length of the received signals than can the incoherent subarray detection method and the conventional full-array detection method.
