Flexible internet for sustainable evolution [Editorial]

Over the past 30 years, the Internet has grown into a truly worldwide open infrastructure for information, communication and commerce, which has revolutionized our society. Nevertheless, the lack of adaptability along with diversified applications makes Internet difficult to provide corresponding services efficiently including convergence, universality, quality of service, expansibility, mobility, and so on. At the same time, along with the growing expansion of network functions and continuous emerging of new protocols, kinds of new equipment have been imposed in the current Internet and therefore overwhelmed it.
