Tracking parameter control in multifunction radar network incorporating information sharing

Hashir Sherwani, Hugh Griffiths · UCL Discovery (University College London) · 2016

This paper explores the challenges of tracking parameter control within a multifunction radar network consisting of active as well as passive nodes. The performance of a multifunction radar is limited by its ability to manage its resource. Hence, for a network to realise its full potential it must base its resource management decisions on the aggregated perception of the environment from all the nodes. The aggregation of perception is facilitated by a novel concept of information sharing which aims to delegate a given task to the best suited sensor within the network. The resource management problem for a network is formulated and treated as an optimisation problem. In comparison to a single monostatic node, due to the concept of information sharing, the network is shown to utilise the resources more efficiently which potentially results in a superior tracking performance.
