Random movement of vehicles and ad-hoc nature of network between vehicles makes Vehicular Ad hoc Network (VANET) a dynamic network. Routing in VANET is a challenging task but to make these networks a reality it has to be improved. Angular approach tries to minimize the deviation of path between source and destination but it does not take into account the link quality. Whereas opportunistic approach selects not just one node but n number of nodes providing additional back up links to make certain that data reaches the destination. In this research work, a new routing scheme Angle based Opportunistic Routing (AOR) which is combination of angular and opportunistic approach has been proposed. AOR takes the advantages of the two protocols i.e. with angular approach it moves in the direction of destination and with opportunistic approach it adds additional back up links and in exchange they counter each other's shortcomings. The proposed scheme AOR has been compared with Link State aware Geographic Opportunistic (LSGO) routing scheme in terms of throughput and packet drop rate. All the simulations have been performed in MATLAB.
