Expressive performance with electronic instruments

Future electronic instruments can facilitate more expressive musical performance by doing certain information processing tasks in real-time during a performance. They can also make the performer's task easier in terms of the motor control skills and information processing abilities that are required. However, these new potentialities raise some very fundamental questions about the nature of performance and the training of performers.
