Scheme for utilizing the soft feedback information in bit-patterned media recording

Bit-patterned media recording systems are promising candidates for the attainment of area-density increases that are beyond the capacities of conventional storage systems. One of the main challenges for the systems is two-dimensional intersymbol interference, which significantly degrades the system performance. In this study, we present a scheme for utilizing the soft feedback information from a decoder to eliminate the detrimental interference. Simulation results show that the proposed solution provides a better performance over a conventional iterative detection.
