IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee standard is becoming a key technology for the development of self-configuring networks of power constrained wireless devices. The standard permits the arbitrary association of typical star networks to form a cluster tree. The organization of this type of network topologies is an open research issue as the specification does not establish any particular algorithm to dimension or synchronize a cluster-tree. This paper proposes and evaluates four simple algorithms to define the Superframe Duration of the clusters within a static IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee network.
