Understanding Search Engines

Search engines are fascinating and powerful tools for research. It is important to understand how various infobases work. Not all infobases are programmed alike. Understanding the differences help to determine which search strategies work best with each infobase. The FARS CD, AICPA Resource CD, AICPA online Publications, FARS Online, and the CPA exam all use slightly different search engines, different search menus, and different algorithms for producing search results. Understanding these differences help to understand how each particular infobase functions. It also helps to transfer the research skills from one infobase to another. This chapter explains understanding of different search engine depending on the infobase.
