Grandisol and Lineatin Enantiomers

Francis X. Webster, Robert M. Silverstein · ACS symposium series · 1982

The synthesis of grandisol(I) and lineatin(II) is discussed. Grandisol is a pheromone component in the cotton boll weevil and in Pissodes weevils. Lineatin is the pheromone of Trypodendron lineatum . The key intermediate, 3-methyl-5-oxo-3-cyclohexene-1-carboxylic acid(V), was resolved as the (-)-quinine salt. A new approach to determining the optical purity of carboxylic acids is discussed.
