Programmable Electronic Components and their Application

SP Hackett · 1980

Some of the most recent advances in electronic technology are discussed, and a strategy is proposed which can be used in new designs to ensure a reasonable component availability, and to allow simple modification updates, throughout the life of the product. The paper concentrates on 'Programmable Electronic Components', outlines the presently available types, their functions and present limitations, then discusses a few applications and programming requirements. The devices discussed include the single chip microcomputer, ROM, PROM, EPROM, EAROM, PLA, ULA, FPLA, PMUX, PAL, FPGA, FPRP, etc.
