Configuring File Shares

Roderick W. Smith · Apress eBooks · 2004

The prototypical use for a Samba system is as a file server —a computer on which files are stored for the benefit of other computers. For this reason, a great many Samba options apply to file shares, which are the topic of this chapter. Before proceeding with this chapter, though, you should read Chapter 4. Some global options must be set to fit your network before you can use any file share. Chapter 4 also describes a few share-level parameters that are commonly used in the [global] section but that are also often used in file shares. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
