Some studies on modelling and designing intelligent sensory devices for industrial applications

N. Prem Mahalik, S. K. Lee · Journal of Scientific & Industrial Research · 2002

The paper presents work on modelling and designing intelligent devices such as sensors, used in industrial automation and control applications. Intelligence within devices has been defined in terms of self-diagnostics. Inorder to implement self-diagnostic features in devices, they must be modelled with respect to external and internal parameters. Once modeled, appropriate schemes and methods can be implemented for diagnostics. Model-based spectrum analysis schemes have been used for diagnosis of sensor anomalies. IBM compatible PC, LON-based fieldbus system, Matlab and Visual Basic tools were used as the realizing platform for evaluation.
