It was a feature peculiar to the colonial wars of North America, that the toils and dangers of the wilderness were to be encountered before the adverse hosts could meet. So it is with JDBC. After you have fought your way through JDBC 1 and all its basic functionality, you find you have more to learn and overcome. In this chapter, I will discuss what has been added in versions 2 and 3 of JDBC. I will also give examples of how to use the new functionality.
