STRAY VOLTAGE SCREENING AND DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES

Gustafson, J. Robert, and Mark T. Morgan · 2004

The following step-by-step procedure is intended to help farmers, and others whoarent necessarily experts in electricity, determine if there may be a stray voltage problemon the farm. It is desirable to make these measurements during periods when theelectrical load on the farm is high (i.e., during or near time of milking cows). Establishingof an isolated reference ground and connecting the voltmeter leads to the referenceground and barn service entrance ground as described in Standardized Measurementsin Chapter 18 will be needed.
