Digital technology has become an integral part of new public telephone networks, as it is cheap and offers a variety of services with better quality of voice transmission over the networks. The integrated services digital network (ISDN) , based on the concept of a complete digital network, has proved that digital technology will not only provide fast and reliable services but will also help in introducing other technologies such as multimedia , virtual reality , concurrent engineering , etc. The integration of different types of signals (audio, video, text, graphics, images, and many other application types) over highspeed networks is becoming an essential service of communication networks.
