High-Technology Entrepreneurs

Edward B. Roberts · Oxford University Press eBooks · 1991

This chapter serves as the preview of the book. It begins with a presentation of a brief backdrop of early entrepreneurship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), followed by four in-depth histories of entrepreneurial founders and their technical companies. These include Kenneth Olsen and Digital Equipment Corporation, Arthur Rosenberg and Tyco Laboratories, Inc., Samuel Morris and Transducer Devices, Inc., and Neil Pappalardo and Medical Information Technology, Inc. Issues involved in founding and building their technological firms, including both success and failure, are discussed. In each case, the author combined objective research with personal involvements as co-founder, director, or consultant. The latter part of the book provides the main theme as well an outline of the chapters that will follow.
