Delving Further into Object‐Oriented Concepts
Bart Baesens, Aimée Backiel, Seppe vanden Broucke · 2012
This chapter aims to increase our knowledge of the principles of object-oriented programming by providing the tools needed to create organized and advanced Java applications. The three main topics covered here are information hiding, inheritance, and interfaces. The chapter also discusses several other ideas, including method overloading, packages, garbage collection, and annotations. It also covers how and why to use the Java this keyword. The this keyword is placed inside an instance method or constructor in order to refer to the object whose method is being called. The chapter explains what class inheritance, polymorphism and interfaces mean and shows how to organize our classes into packages.
