Automatic Measurement of Position and Dimension Using Closed-Circuit Television

Richard Baker · The Journal of Photographic Science · 1979

It is possible to make automatic and semi-automatic measurements of the positions and dimensions of objects seen m closed-circuit television (CCTV) images. The technique has applications in research and industrial control CCTV IS complementary to photography: although the resolution of CCTV images is lower, there is the possibility of instantaneous replay. Suitable equipment can provide computer-compatible output direct from CCTV images. This paper outlines the relevant features of the CCTV camera and CCTV waveform. Commercially available measuring equipment is described, together with typical applications.
