Modeling Complex Neurons
Erik De Schutter, Werner A. H. Van Geit · The MIT Press eBooks · 2009
This chapter is concerned with active models of neurons with complex morphologies. It considers GENESIS and NEURON to be the two most commonly used compartmental simulator software packages. The chapter suggests that it is important to define the accuracy required in advance and also to have reliable ways to validate the model afterward in order to judge the quality of a model. It briefly addresses how to provide synaptic input to an isolated cell model, and predicts a bright future for complex neuron models that add molecular details to the classic mix of morphology and channels.
