What you should know about MBT before starting
Anne Krämer, Bruno Legeard · 2016
This chapter clarifies some fundamental terms such as model and model-based testing (MBT) first. It presents the terms referenced by the syllabus and defined in the ISTQB standard glossary of terms used in software testing. The term model has several meanings. Apart from representation and reduction properties, models have a third property: they are pragmatic. It is very important to understand this pragmatic property of MBT models. For example, MBT models used at acceptance-level testing differ from MBT models used at system-level testing. They focus on different aspects with a different level of abstraction. A modeling language defines how to write and read a model written in this language. To understand the language, one has to learn its syntax and semantics. However, there is an important difference between models for system design and those for testing purposes.
