Maximum Length Sequence (MLS) technique is a very efficient measurement technique widely used in room acoustics. One of its advantages in comparison to other methods and techniques is transient noise immunity. Namely, the mentioned noise is transformed through the cross-correlation into background noise. Transient noise influence in MLS technique is analyzed here on theoretical and practical basis using simulations and measurements. The influences of transient noise signal parameters such as signal duration, level and type are observed. The results show that the reduction of Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) of Impulse Response (IR) as the main consequence of transient noise is directly related to the energy of noise signal. The change of transient noise parameters causes change of SNR reduction but only if the noise energy is changed. Although this noise does not influence the decay of obtained IR, the attention should be paid to SNR reduction since it could be important for some applications.
