Spiraling computational theory into control with CS1

Kian L. Pokorny · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2014

This paper presents an approach for an introductory computing course that integrates topics from discrete mathematics, computer architecture and computational theory into an introduction to programming and problem solving. Some background and motivation for this approach are discussed and the organization of the course is presented. This is followed by an overview of example problems that help to integrate these concepts into the course. Finally, we discuss our experience in the first offerings of the course with these examples.
