Despite the fact that the Bell Telephone Laboratories had originated almost all the silicon technology eventually used to invent the integrated circuit, or microchip, this revolutionary breakthrough occurred elsewhere—at Texas Instruments, Inc., in Dallas, and Fairchild Semiconductor Corporation in Mountain View, California.
