Management of Test Results and Defects
JOSE FAJARDO, Elfriede Dustin · 2012
This chapter examines how defects are stored and managed in a secured system with database, reporting, and query capabilities. The Change Control Board (CCB) helps to manage, prioritize, assign, and categorize defects and subsequently determine how the defect will be resolved. The formality for the reporting and management of test results is largely a function of the testing effort, project discipline, industry regulations, and available resources dedicated to the testing effort. The reasons for documenting test results may be either imposed on the entity implementing SAP due to regulations for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance, part of a corporate approach and standard for implementing information technology such as the discipline offered by the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) from the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), or as a means of measuring and verifying the system integrator's completion rates for the execution of test cases. Actual test results that are documented demonstrate either that a test case was successfully implemented since its execution obtained a pass status or that it fails when the actual results do not match the expected results documented on the test case.
