Enterprise Capacity Planning for End‐State Architecture

Michael Mayerfeld Bell · 2016

Capacity planning for an end-state architecture that includes systems, applications, and any other entity in production is all about sizing. This chapter lays out a plan for enterprise capacity planning activities. This simple process is devised to size an environment for an end-state architecture. The collaborative consumption of end-state architecture elements should be satisfied in a production ecosystem. The chapter explains a schematic capacity planning life cycle during which five chief activities should be accomplished: end-state architecture artifact studies; data collection; data analysis; data modeling; and environment sizing. There is a double purpose for the enterprise capacity planning modeling for an end-state architecture: reporting current baseline and forecasting resource utilization for an environment. The chapter then proposes a model for resource utilization sizing, describing a method for delivering a clear and compact capacity plan that could be implemented rapidly to fulfill end-state architecture environment consumption goals.
