Reviewing Core Python

Laura Cassell, Alan Gauld · 2014

This chapter explains the basic features of the Python language, and teaches how to to use the Python module mechanism, create a new module, and create a new package. It starts with a brief review of Python and provides a foundation upon which the rest of the book is built. The Python interpreter, called python, benefits the user, and in some operating systems, allows the file and interpreter to be linked. The chapter looks at the Python ecosystem, the data types, and the major control structures and then moves on to defining functions and classes. Next, the chapter discusses the Python module and package system. Finally, the reader is able to create a basic new package of modules. At the end of this chapter, the reader will be ready to take the next step and start working with the standard Python modules on real project tasks.
