Customer Data Integration Is Different: A CDI Development Framework

Jill Dyché, Evan Levy · 2012

This chapter discusses the development of customer data integration (CDI) which differs from the implementation frameworks that have been sanctioned for other types of systems, be they operational systems or analytic platforms. CDI-specific development method ensures that the processing needs and data complexity are supported during construction. Operational systems that contain customer information are constantly changing and there should be an authoritative system for this data. Defining data integration rules can be broken down into defining business rules and data conversion methods to identify and transform the appropriate source data. CDI development teams need to constantly communicate with source system data stewards to understand the changes that may be affecting the data in advance. The CDI developers should coordinate scheduled enhancements to the CDI hub via release management so that existing applications are ready for the changes.
