The Use of Floppy Discs

Brian J. Townsend · 1985

The development work on the file handling routines has been on the assumption that a cassette recorder was being used to store both program and data. The addition of routines to satisfy the emerging requirements of the program was at the expense of memory that had been available for holding the file. By design, the sample file had a maximum of twenty records and so no memory-shortage problems emerged. It should be noted, however, that the complete program, containing all the procedures, has not so far been resident in memory and thus a possible shortage of memory was not revealed to the user.
