Further Graphical Methods of Presenting Data
Arthur H. Hall · 1978
Natural scale graphs , drawn on a grid of squares based on natural measurement (in., cm, etc.), are those with which we have long been familiar. One of their limitations is the difficulty of coping with high and low values simultaneously, which happens with the fluctuations in time series as well as in those cases where two or more graphs have to be plotted together. If the scale is too small a second difficulty arises in plotting straight lines for regression or trend, the problem being the determination of direction which a larger scale might ameliorate.
