Condition C Applies Everywhere
Samuel Jay Keyser · The MIT Press eBooks · 2009
This chapter demonstrates that Condition C applies everywhere. The arguments for A-reconstruction serve as a lemma leading up to the proof of the universal application of Condition C. The fact that Condition C applies everywhere is an important result, because it suggests a particular architecture: one where the negative conditions apply homogeneously throughout the derivation. Three types of examples show that Condition C applies everywhere: first, strong instances of Condition C violations; second, weak instances of Condition C violations; and third, instances of anaphor binding that show a difference depending on whether the anaphor is embedded or not.
