Detecting Use Errors

Michael Wiklund, Andrea Dwyer, Erin Davis · 2016

Ahead of a usability test, you should determine what constitutes correct versus incorrect task performance. An appropriate first step is to identify all expected actions required to complete each task, based perhaps on the results of a task analysis. You should also make a list of all use errors appearing in a use-related risk analysis (see definition in Chapter 5). You can combine the list of expected actions and potential use errors to create tools, such as a use error checklist, for documenting task performance during usability test sessions.
