Qualitative and Quantitative Reviews on Driver's Reaction Time

Baogui Cao · MECS '15 Proceedings of the 2015 International Conference on Mechanical Engineering and Control Systems · 2015

The inevitable reaction time of driver is an important measurement index for the driving performance, liability, capacity, safety analysis and other driver related research topics. However, according to literature reviews, the present researches on driver reaction time mainly are qualitative, driver information processing mechanism, affecting factors of driver reaction time and thorough quantitative analysis are deficient. Considering that, the research content of this paper is proposed. First, a brief current literature review introduction is given on driver reaction time. Further, driver information processing mechanism and affecting factors of driver's reaction time are investigated in detail. Finally, quantitative analysis of two experimental cases on driver reaction times is provided and discussed based on experimental data by statistic method. These perspectives may be useful when applying research results to both theoretical and practical questions such as driving performance measure, capacity, safety analysis, traffic accident precaution and reconstruction etc.
